Dir en grey is an experimental Japanese band, formed in 1997.
You may have seen around the Internet a lot of people refer to
them as metal or rock, but if you've heard their music, they don't
fall under anything one single genre can describe. The band consists
of vocalist Kyo, drummer Shinya, guitarist Kaoru, guitarist Die (Daisuke),
and bassist Toshiya (Toshi). It has been said that their mission is to
"spread the feeling of hurt and sorrow caused by weakness, shallowness
and egoism of humanity." This could be interpreted in many ways.
I don't think it's their intention to actually hurt anyone. I think what
they're tying to do is strengthen us. You can't overcome pain and
suffering, unless you are forced to face it. Dir en grey rose very quickly
to fame, as their first 3 singles topped charts. Ever since, Dir en grey has
been tour and producing non-stop. In the last 13 years of their career
they've produced 7 full length albums, 1 remixed album, 2 eps, 2 best of cds,
and 25 singles.In 2006 they finally gave in to the desperate pleas of their
American fans, and gave us the showcase tour. They had no idea just what
they were in for. With not so much as one release in the United States, and
no real advertisement for the short 3 show tour, tickets sold out within minutes
of pre-sale. Not many people understand the dedication fans have to Dir en grey,
the band themselves are baffled by the enormous lines and how many days
before the shows that they begin to form. Dir en grey has been exhausting
themselves to reach every corner of the world with their music, and everyone
keeps crying out for just one more song.
